MP backs biodiesel tax break project

Liberal Democrat MP Andrew George is backing a project to keep tax breaks for business who produce biodiesel.

Producers transforming cooking oil into biodiesel presently take advantage of a 20p differential however that is due to end next April.

The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Environment Team, has been consulting with the biodiesel alliance.

Mr George stated “a variety of small companies in Cornwall presently earn money from used cooking oil”.

He included: “In order to be able to get this kind of industry going it does require just a little bit of lift which can be found in the form of tax inevitable.”

Biodiesel is a blend of traditional diesel, rapeseed and vegetable oils.
