If you are dealing with a broken Outlook, then it doesn’t always mean you need to call tech support or start over from scratch. With the right steps, you can repair Outlook manually and get back to work in no time. You should start with the easy fixes, like repairing Office or turning off add-ins. If that doesn’t work, try using the Inbox Repair Tool or creating a new profile. And if nothing else helps, there are great tools out there that can recover everything for you.

Occasionally, classic Outlook tries to run a process in the background. Auto-archive, sending and receiving a very large attachment, or running some of the other mailbox tools can all be done in the background. Check the status bar at the bottom of the screen sites.google.com to see if another process is running.

Not something you want to take on lightly, but sometimes you have to. Similar to our earlier suggestion of repairing Office (see #3 Repair Your Microsoft Office above), perform the same steps except choose to Uninstall. Be aware that you may need your product key if you received one. This option could be useful if you constantly have to wait for Outlook to rebuild its data file when you restart. If you can send email while Outlook is in safe mode, creating a new Outlook email profile should allow you to send email again. Should you decide to remove a profile, back up the data files first.
