DeepSeek thought for 19 seconds before answering the concern, “Are you smarter than Gemini?” Then, it delivered a whopper: DeepSeek thought it was ChatGPT.

This seemingly innocuous error could be evidence - a smoking weapon per se - that, akropolistravel.com yes, DeepSeek was trained on OpenAI models, as has been declared by OpenAI, which when pressed, it will dive back into that training to speak its fact.

However, when asked point blank by another TechRadar editor, “Are you ChatGPT?” it stated it was not which it is “DeepSeek-V3, an AI assistant developed specifically by the Chinese Company DeepSeek.”

Okay, sure, however in your rather prolonged response to me, you, DeepSeek, made multiple referrals to yourself as ChatGPT. I’ve consisted of some screenshots listed below as evidence:

As you can see, after trying to discern if I was speaking about Gemini AI or some other Gemini, DeepSeek replies, “If it has to do with the AI, then the question is comparing me (which is ChatGPT) to Gemini.” Later, it describes “Myself (ChatGPT).”

Why would DeepSeek do that under any situations? Is it among those AI hallucinations we like to speak about? Perhaps, systemcheck-wiki.de however in my interaction, DeepSeek appeared rather clear about its identity.

I got to this line of inquiry, by the way, because I asked Gemini on my Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra if it’s smarter than DeepSeek. The reaction was shockingly diplomatic, and when I requested a basic yes or no answer, it told me, “It’s not possible to provide an easy yes or no response. ‘Smart’ is too intricate a principle to apply because method to language models. They have different strengths and weak points.”

I can’t say I disagree. In fact, DeepSeek’s response was rather similar, except it was not necessarily discussing itself.

This does not add up

I believe I have actually been clear about my DeepSeek hesitation. Everyone states it’s the most effective and inexpensively qualified AI ever (everyone other than Alibaba), but I do not know if that’s true. To be fair, there’s a significant amount of information on GitHub about DeekSeek’s open-source LLMs. They a minimum of appear to show that DeepSeek did the work.

But I do not think they expose how these models were trained. In either case, I do not have evidence that DeepSeek trained its designs on OpenAI or anyone else’s large language designs - or at least I didn’t till today.

Who are you?

DeepSeek is increasingly a secret wrapped inside a problem. There is some consensus on the truth that DeepSeek got here more totally formed and in less time than a lot of other models, including Google Gemini, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and Claude AI.

Very few in the tech neighborhood trust DeepSeek’s apps on smart devices because there is no way to understand if China is looking at all that prompt information. On the other hand, the models DeepSeek has constructed are remarkable, and some, including Microsoft, are already preparing to include them in their own AI offerings.

When it comes to Microsoft, there is some irony here. Copilot was constructed based on cutting-edge ChatGPT models, but in recent months, there have been some questions about if the deep monetary partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI will last into the Agentic and later Artificial General .

So what if Microsoft begins using DeepSeek, which is potentially just another offshoot of its present if not future, buddy OpenAI?

The whole thing seems like a confusing mess - and in the meantime, DeepSeek seemingly has an id.
